BCP launched its Quarterly Volunteering Programme in 2014. Through the programme, BCP staff nominate a charity and volunteer time to either fundraise or just lend a helping hand. For example, last year BCP staff volunteered their time to cook meals for the parents of seriously ill children in Crumlin Hospital through the charity Ronald McDonald House, fundraised for St. Michael’s House and Temple Street Children’s Hospital through a charity raffle, took part in the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association Ice Bucket Challenge and helped to clean and restore the garden for the MS Ireland Care Centre in Rathfarnham. We also supported a number of charities at Christmas time including the St.Vincent de Paul ‘Giving Tree’ Appeal.
This year, we have evolved this programme and partnered with Grow it Yourself (GIY) and a local community garden. This garden brings together a struggling community and revives an area of degradation into an environmentally beneficial garden. BCP are volunteering time to help with the maintenance of the garden and are also providing funding to help keep the project going. In addition, BCP will volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House again this October and a number of staff will also fundraise for the Mark Pollock Trust and take part in the ‘Run in the Dark’ in November. We will also continue to support a number of charities and will again participate in the Giving Tree Appeal again this year.
Having always been involved in giving back to the community, we felt it necessary to put a formal CSR Policy and budget in place last year to ensure we consistently and fairly contribute across the Community, Marketplace, Environment and Workplace areas.
We formed a CSR Committee who were initially tasked with creating a CSR Policy which meets the needs of the company. In order to create this policy, we discussed CSR with likeminded companies and those that already have CSR Policies to establish what would work best – it was at this stage we came up with the concept of the Quarterly Volunteering Programme. The Committee now meets regularly to plan, organise and review all CSR related activity.
Since our formation in 1969, BCP and its staff have been committed to giving back to the community through corporate charitable donations, fundraising events and volunteering with various charities. It is of paramount importance to us to ensure all our actions comply with ethical standards and international norms and we demonstrate immense ethical and social responsibility in every activity with all of our stakeholders.
We have built relationships with our customers based on trust, reliability and capability and we constantly assess our business practices to ensure we continue to meet their needs and expectations. BCP applies best practice to areas such as customer service, working conditions and community involvement and we pride ourselves as a responsible and progressive company contributing to the economic and social life of Ireland.
Our Quarterly Volunteering Programme satisfies the criteria set out in our CSR Policy, namely: the Community, Marketplace, Environment and the Workplace. Our CSR Policy is available to view here.
