Bank of Ireland launches inaugural responsible business report

BITCI News - Mar 03, 2015

Bank of Ireland has launched its inaugural Responsible Business Report. The report contains a detailed overview of the current initiatives and business practices that comprise responsible business in Bank of Ireland across five pillars: customers; community; colleagues; environment and governance.

Speaking at its launch, CEO Richie Boucher stated:

BOI“While the report contains many interesting elements, the stand out feature for me is that there is so much happening across the Group.  One of the seminal moments over the past couple of years was when we confirmed that we had repaid the State Aid we received from the Irish taxpayers. It was uplifting to see Give Together, which is at the heart of our support for communities and is driven by colleagues across the Bank, put into action.  I was also particularly invigorated by the large numbers  of colleagues participating in our Be At Your Best programme, which is going from strength to strength and is about promoting employee wellbeing.”

Some of the highlights of 2014 identified in the report include:

  • Largest lender into Irish economy
  • €25.5m charitable donations since 2007
  • 814 volunteer days given in 2014
  • First financial institution in the world to be environmentally EN16001 certified
  • Over 10,000 colleagues participating in Be At Your Best programme in 2014
  • 2,900 colleagues passing professional exams in 2014
  • 5 flagship charity partners are Irish Cancer Society, SVP, Barnardos, Pieta House and Co-operation Ireland
  • Approved over 1,000 loan applications from small Irish businesses and farmers every week
